Job-related travel is EXTENSIVE. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain required car insurance.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in social work, behavioral science, guidance and counseling, or public administration and 6 years of professional social work or social science administration, including 3 years of qualifying experience in assigned program as a supervisor, a senior programs administrator, or in program management. 

OR

  • Completion of a Master's degree in social work, behavioral science, guidance and counseling, or public administration and 5 years of professional social work or social science administration, including 3 years of qualifying experience in assigned program as a supervisor, a senior programs administrator, or in program management. 

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one (1) additional year of qualifying work experience for each year of required education.

*Note: Professional experience in the fields listed must have been the primary job responsibility to be considered as qualifying. Incidental performance of professional work in any area(s) shall not be considered. 
 

Job Responsibilities

  • The APS District Director is responsible for overseeing Adult Protective Services operations within the assigned district, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This role provides strategic leadership to APS supervisors and staff, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, professional growth, and service excellence. The director monitors and evaluates district performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes to enhance service delivery.  
  • Managing personnel and team development is a critical function of the role. The director supervises APS supervisors and staff, overseeing recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions while ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and ethical standards. They facilitate professional development opportunities, promote staff well-being, and provide coaching and mentorship to support effective casework practices.  
  • The APS District Director ensures the quality and effectiveness of case investigations and service plans, monitoring adherence to APS policies and best practices. They review case trends, implement process improvements, and ensure that timely and appropriate interventions are provided for vulnerable adults. Additionally, they collaborate with community partners, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to strengthen service coordination and advocacy efforts.  
  • A key responsibility of this position is policy implementation and compliance. The director interprets and enforces APS policies and legislative mandates, ensuring the district remains compliant with all applicable regulations. They stay informed about policy changes, implement necessary adjustments, and develop corrective action plans when required.  
  • The role also involves data management and reporting, analyzing district performance metrics to identify trends and inform decision-making. The director prepares reports for leadership and stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of APS casework. Additionally, they manage district resources efficiently, advocating for necessary funding, staffing, and support to meet APS demands while ensuring fiscal responsibility. Through these efforts, the APS District Director plays a vital role in protecting vulnerable adults and enhancing the effectiveness of APS services.
